Which values resonate with your business and yourself?
That’s another question I love asking my clients.
Why Values Matter
Values look nice on a website or on a poster in the staff room, their impact goes much deeper once you look under the surface.
Those values drive your business, and your actions. How many of us [small business owners] have worked with a new client or partner and it went wrong?? Checking that we are sharing the same values can help avoid those situations.
A Filter for Decision Making
I see values as a sort of principle, some brand guidelines that help a business make decisions about partnerships, and more widely, interactions with the world (when I say world, feel free to add the size and definition of yours!).
I give you that: it can be challenging sometimes!
Authenticity in a Digital World
Lately, authenticity has come back a couple of times. In a world of digital and AI, it’s so interesting; and I love it! Even more, when I see the different definitions that are coming out of it.
It’s one of LRSY’s values as well, and my definition is also different! A few days ago was a good example of how I implement it: a business owner wanted to meet up, and I told him that I couldn’t see how my marketing services would help his business. He was surprised, saying that it was the first time a marketer had told him that.
Protecting Your Confidence and Reputation
A wrong match in business can cause much more damage than we realise! It can feel like you are wasting your time, or damage the confidence (or the one of your team). Someone unhappy may give bad publicity… It can be challenging to say “no” to a project, a partnership, or a potential client because rationally there are a lot of good reasons, still check your values and your gut feeling!
My Tips for Your Business:
- Pick 3 to 5 values
- Write your definition for each of them
- Use them to check your marketing actions: are they aligned?
